Etsy Profit Calculator

The fee calculator tells you what Etsy takes. This one tells you what you keep — after your materials, your packaging, your postage, and your time. Then it scales that to a month and a year, which is the number that actually decides whether a product is worth selling.

What the numbers mean

Profit per sale

The headline. If this is under $5 on a handmade item, the product is probably not worth the hours — regardless of how many you sell.

Profit per month

This is where volume hides a bad margin. A $3 profit at 100 sales is $300 for a month of work, before you've paid yourself anything.

Effective hourly rate

Profit per sale divided by the time each one takes. It is the single most honest number in the whole calculation, and the one most sellers avoid.

Where sellers get this wrong

Does Etsy charge its 6.5% fee on my shipping?

The transaction fee applies to what the buyer pays, including the shipping you charge — not just the item price. Charge $6 shipping and Etsy takes $0.39 of it. If your label costs $4.50, your real shipping margin is $1.11, not $1.50. Most sellers never notice this because the fee appears as one combined line.

Should I count my own time as a cost?

Materials get counted because they show up on a receipt. Time doesn't, so it silently goes missing. If a product takes 25 minutes to make and pack, and you value your time at $15/hour, that's $6.25 per sale. Leave it out and you'll conclude the product is profitable when it's actually paying you below minimum wage.

What if an Offsite Ads sale lands on a price set for organic traffic?

Offsite Ads adds 15% to the order total, and the attribution window is 30 days. A buyer who found you on Google organically, then clicked a retargeted Instagram ad two weeks later, is an Offsite Ads sale — you owe the fee even though they already knew about you. This calculator defaults to including the fee so your price survives the worst case; switch it off only if you've actually opted out.

Does a higher price always mean more profit on Etsy?

It usually does on Etsy, because the $0.20 listing fee and $0.25 payment fee are fixed. On a $4.99 item those two alone are 9% of revenue; on a $99.99 item they're 0.45%. Same rates, very different outcomes. Run both price points through this calculator and compare the effective rate, not the sticker price.

What is the difference between revenue and profit on Etsy?

Revenue is what the buyer pays. Profit is what's left after Etsy, your supplier, the post office and your own time have all been paid. A shop can do $3,000 a month in revenue and lose money. This calculator exists to make that visible before it happens rather than after.
